The project calls for a community design in a rural site in Cambodia, less than 15 km away East of the capital city of Phnom Penh. Most of the rural areas suffer from extreme flood for 1-2 months during typhoon season. The site sits on a flood plain zone in the province of Kandal. The challenges of the projects are the site being on a flood plain and suffer from high flood levels during flood season; the culture of Khmer people; the exploration of bamboo as the primary building material for the structures. These include the houses and the community hub. The project involves master planning, with heavy consideration on the drainage of the water as the flood subsides. It also involves designing the house and the community hub, understanding the strength of bamboo as a flexible, sustainable, and durable building material, especially when seasoned.
